Personal reasons spurred Huddersfield firm's managing director
David Newsholme went to great lengths to raise money for charity - walking the breadth of the country for Kirkwood Hospice.
David, 61, from Mirfield, completed the 168-mile Coast to Coast walk and has raised a massive £4,027 for the Dalton-based hospice. Starting from St. Bees in Cumbria, David and his son-in-law tackled extreme conditions and rugged terrain to arrive at Robin Hood’s Bay in a total of 12 days over a number of weekends.
"We were walking about 30 miles each weekend but did the final 50 miles over three days." said David. "We’ve had lots of blisters and aches and pains to contend with."
A family-run meat products supplier has opened a new product development kitchen at its Oakes premises
Newsholme Food Group, based at New Hey Road, Oakes, has invested £50,000 in creating a product development kitchen to help the company devise new ranges and recipes. Newsholme, which employs 216 people, has appointed Joanne Sutton as new product development manager – a role she previously held with supermarket giants Asda and Morrisons.

Country Park Foods, part of the Oakes-based Newsholme Food Group, snapped up eight awards in the BPEX Foodservice Sausage of the Year competition. The annual competition recognises and rewards the very best sausages served in pubs, restaurants, hotels and canteens. This year, judges evaluated 200 entries across five categories – traditional pork sausage, speciality pork sausage, best pub pork sausage, best innovative pork sausage and iconic British banger.
The haul of eight awards for Country Park Foods included three gold and five silver achieved across four of the five categories.
